Stars’ Nils Lundkvist out for remainder of 2024-25; Tyler Seguin placed on LTIR

The Dallas Stars announced Saturday that defenseman Nils Lundkvist will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign after undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery.
Sidelined for the past four games, Lundkvist’s last appearance came January 21 versus the Carolina Hurricanes in which he finished with one shot and a minus-one rating through 12:08 of ice time. On the season, the 24-year-old Sweden-born blue-liner has made 39 showings in which he has recorded five assists with 20 penalty minutes and a minus-four mark.
Originally chosen 28th overall by the New York Rangers in the 2018 NHL Draft, Lundkvist has totaled 183 career contests in which he he notched nine goals and 35 assists for 44 points. Per PuckPedia, Lundkvist carries a $1.25-million annual average value and can become a restricted free agent this coming offseason.
Beyond Lundkvist, the Stars made a second transaction Saturday, adding center Tyler Seguin to the long-term injured reserve. Sidelined since early December after undergoing hip surgery, Seguin has been limited to 19 appearances this season in which he has scored north of a point per game with nine goals and 11 assists.
Skating in his 12th season with the Stars, the 33-year-old Brampton, Ont., native wrapped up 2023-24 with 52 points counting 25 goals and 27 assists through 68 games after missing extended time due to a lower-body ailment.
Chosen second overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Boston Bruins, Seguin has tallied 360 goals and 448 assists for 808 points through 988 career contests with the Bruins and Stars.
Seguin is in the sixth year of an eight-year pact that carries a $9.85-million annual average value, per PuckPedia.
On the season, Dallas sits second place in the Central Division with a 33-17-1 record and 67 points. Riding a four-game win streak, the Stars will try for their fifth-straight victory when the club returns to the ice Sunday to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
