Dallas Stars sign Chase Wheatcroft to entry-level contract

The Dallas Stars announced that they have signed forward Chase Wheatcroft to a three-year entry-level contract. The contract will begin in the 2023-24 season.

Wheatcroft, 20, is signed as an undrafted free agent. He currently plays for the Prince George Cougars in the Western Hockey League where he has amassed 47 goals and 104 points in 65 games this season, he is second among WHL point leaders trailing just Connor Bedard. He recorded 11 goals and 27 points through a 14-game point streak, which included five games with three points plus. Two weeks after being named the WHL Player of the Week, the Calgary Alberta product was named the WHL Player of the Month for February; finishing the month with three consecutive multi-point games over that span.

Wheatcroft started his WHL career in 2019-20 with the Lethbridge Hurricanes and posted 29 points in 59 games. In 2020-21 during the “bubble season” which was due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Wheatcroft totalled 15 points in 23 games. He spent the 2021-22 season with the Hurricanes for 22 games before being dealt to the Winnipeg Ice. He joined the loaded Ice, who at the time were the best team in the WHL. The club boasted talents like Buffalo Sabres first-round pick Matthew Savoie, Arizona Coyotes first-round pick Conor Geekie, Minnesota Wild prospect Mikey Milne and 2023 top prospect Zach Benson. Wheatcroft notched 20 points (12 goals, 8 assists) in 30 games, while also putting up six points in 15 WHL playoff games. In four WHL seasons, he appeared in 202 games and totalled 78 goals and 108 assists for 186 points. He joins a steady prospect pool in Texas with the likes of Wyatt Johnston, Logan Stankoven, and Mavrik Bourque to name a few.
