Dallas Stars sign Christopher Gibson, Solag Bakich to tryout deals
The Dallas Stars added two last-minute additions to their training camp roster, signing goaltender Christopher Gibson and forward Solag Bakich to professional tryout offers.
Gibson, 30, has 16 games of NHL experience over seven years with the New York Islanders and Tampa Bay Lightning. Drafted 49th overall by the Los Angeles Kings in 2011, Gibson was later moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2013-14, but never dressed with the club.
After two years in the organization, Gibson eventually made his NHL debut with the Islanders in 2015-16, going 1-1-1. He has a career record of 4-5-3 with a .901 save percentage in the NHL, and has a 124-77-37 record with 14 shutouts over 10 seasons in the AHL. Gibson was part of Tampa Bay’s squad when the club won the 2021 Stanley Cup.
Bakich spent the past four years with the University of Notre Dame, recording a career-high 17 points in 35 games in 2021-22. After finishing his eight-point campaign last spring, he exploded offensively with the ECHL’s Reading Royals, scoring three goals and 10 points in 12 regular season games. Bakich capped off the year with four points in eight playoff games before signing a new deal to return in 2023-24. If Bakich is to sign a contract with the Stars, it would be his first NHL deal after the Dallas native went undrafted.
The pair will join defenseman Jordie Benn and goaltender Brandon Halverson on PTOs with Dallas, with NHL training camps set to open on Wednesday morning.
