Dallas Stars sign Gavin White to three-year entry-level contract

The Dallas Stars have signed Gavin White to a three-year entry-level contract with an AAV of $950,000. The deal will kick in starting in 2023-24.

White, 20, was an overage draft pick by the Stars last year. The 5-foot-11 defender has proven himself to be a valuable offensive threat while playing on pace to break the 50-point barrier for the second consecutive year.

White really showed up on team’s radars last year with a solid 10-goal, 56-point campaign to sit second behind Florida Panthers prospect Nathan Staios for Hamilton’s scoring lead among blueliners. Before that, White played just 25 games due to injury in 2019-20 and didn’t play at all the following year due to COVID-19 shutdowns.

White was traded from Hamilton to Peterborough this season, where he has produced at just under a point-per-game pace.

The Stars currently sit first in the Western Conference with a 32-16-13 record with a three-point cushion over Minnesota. The Stars have a solid young core that’s built around Jason Robertson, Miro Heiskanen and Jake Oettinger, among others. It’ll be interesting to see what White evolves into with the Stars as the first player signed from the most recent draft class.
