On Monday, Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill announced that the team has signed goaltender Remi Poirier to a two-year, two-way contract extension, beginning next season and carrying through the 2027-28 campaign.

The terms of the deal have yet to be announced.

Poirier was taken by the Stars in the sixth round, 185th overall, of the 2020 NHL Draft. He would sign his three-year, entry-level contract in March 2022. That deal carried an NHL cap hit of $836,667 through this past year, with an annual minor-league salary of $75,000.

Poirier’s three years with the Stars organization has seen spend all of his time in the minor leagues. Most of it has been with Dallas’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Texas Stars, though he played several games with the Idaho Steelheads, the Stars’ ECHL affiliate, during the 2022-23 season, and was named to the league’s All-Rookie Team.

The 23-year-old is coming off his best season in the AHL. In splitting time with Magnus Hellberg, Poirier appeared in 31 games, posting a 17-11-2 record, notching career-best numbers in goals-against average (2.50), save percentage (.908) and shutouts (3). His play led the Stars to finish second in the AHL’s Central Division, making it all the way to the Western Conference Final before losing to the Vancouver Canucks’ primary affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks, in six games.

In 85 career games with Texas, the Farnham, Quebec native has a record of 43-32-8 with a 2.86 GAA, a .906 SV% and four shutouts. In 18 Calder Cup Playoff appearances, he’s 9-6 with a 2.26 GAA, a .916 SV% and two shutouts.

Along with his pro career, Poirier spent four years in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League with the Gatineau Olympiques.
