Dave Cameron named Canada’s coach for 2025 World Junior
Hockey Canada announced the staff for the upcoming 2025 IIHF World Juniors tournament in Ottawa, Ontario.
The team will be led by bench boss Dave Cameron, the Ottawa 67s coach was last behind the bench in 2022 leading Canada to gold. This will be his fifth time as Canada’s head coach at the World Juniors.

Cameron’s resume not only includes his time as a coach on the international stage, but he also spent a handful of years as an assistant and head coach with the Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames before returning back to major junior.
Meanwhile, Sylvain Favreau, who led the Drummondville Voltigeurs to a QMJHL Championship will serve as an assistant coach on Cameron’s staff. Favreau served as an assistant coach at the Hlinka Gretzky last season as well.
The decorate Mike Johnston of the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks will also be joining Cameron’s staff. Johnston makes his return to international play for the first time since 2008-09 when he served as head coach of Canada’s U18 team. The 67-year-old spent two years as head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins and a handful of years as an assistant coach and associate coach with the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks
Memorial Cup Champion coach Chris Lazary of the Saginaw Spirit will also be on board the staff. This will be Lazary’s first international coaching experience.
Goaltending coach and former World Junior goaltender Justin Pogge and video coach James Emery round out the coaching staff.
While Lethbridge Hurricanes’ Peter Anholt and former NHLer and three-time Stanley Cup champion Brent Seabrook will return as the U20 lead for the Program of Excellence.
