Red Wings’ Andrew Copp exits game versus Wild

Detroit Red Wings forward Andrew Copp left Saturday’s matinee game against the Minnesota Wild and would not return.
Copp logged one assist in 10:50 minutes of ice time and left the game when Detroit was up 3-1. He picked up the assist on Alex DeBrincat’s 26th goal of the season.

The Ann Arbor, Michigan native took a step back in 2023-24 after having a career year in his first season in Detroit, although it’s still on par with some of his better seasons with 13 goals and 20 assists for 33 points in 79 games.
Copp was a fourth-round pick of the Winnipeg Jets in the 2013 NHL Draft, and after making his NHL debut late in the 2014-15 season, he spent parts of seven full seasons in Winnipeg before he was traded to the New York Rangers in 2022 as a trade deadline acquisition. He then went on to sign a five-year contract with a $5.625 million cap hit with the Red Wings in the 2022 offseason, a deal that he is currently in the second year of.
Detroit sits fifth in the Atlantic Division with a 28-22-5 record and 61 points through 55 games. The Red Wings sit one point behind the Ottawa Senators and five points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Following tonight’s game versus Minnesota, Detroit is slated to face the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday.
