Red Wings’ Andrew Copp to miss remainder of 2024-25 NHL season

The Detroit Red Wings announced Tuesday that forward Andrew Copp will miss the remainder of the 2024-25 NHL season after undergoing surgery to repair his left pectoral tendon. His expected recovery time is four-to-six months.

Copp had 10 goals and 13 assists for 23 points, averaging 14:42 of ice time in 56 games with the Red Wings this season. The 30-year-old native of Ann Arbor, Mich., has 114 goals and 186 assists for 300 points in 700 career games with the Red Wings, Winnipeg Jets and New York Rangers.
Copp finished the 2022-23 season with a career-high 42 points via nine goals and 33 assists. His career high in goals came in 2020-21, where he scored 15 goals in 55 games with the Jets.
Taken in the fourth round by the Jets in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Copp played three seasons of college hockey at the University of Michigan, where he scored 40 goals and 41 assists for 82 points in 107 games.
The Red Wings are 29-22-6 with 64 points, fourth in the Atlantic Division and currently holding on to the No. 1 Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. They’re 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and 16-5-2 since Todd McLellan took over as head coach on Dec. 26.
Forward Lucas Raymond leads the team in points with 63, by way of 22 goals and a team-leading 41 assists. Alex DeBrincat leads the way in goals with 26, while captain Dylan Larkin has 24 goals and 29 assists for 53 points. Patrick Kane, the 35-year-old future Hockey Hall of Famer, has 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points.
The Red Wings’ next game is Tuesday night when they travel to the State of Hockey to face the Minnesota Wild.
