Red Wings’ Patrick Kane sets record for most 20-goal seasons by U.S.-born player

Detroit Red Wings’ forward Patrick Kane made history Friday night, scoring his 20th goal of the season and setting an NHL record for U.S.-born players for the most 20-goal seasons with his 16th.

Kane scored the milestone goal midway through the second period during a 5-3 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Now in his 18th NHL season, Kane has 491 goals and 846 assists for 1,337 points in 1,295 career games with the Red Wings, New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks. His most productive seasons came as a member of the Blackhawks, where he recorded two 100-point seasons in 2015-16 and 2018-19. He has also recorded eight 50-assist campaigns during his career.
Kane has also appeared in 143 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, scoring 53 goals and 85 assists for 138 points. As a member of the Blackhawks, he helped the club win three Stanley Cup championships in 2010, 2013. and 2015. He was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2013 as playoff MVP.
The Red Wings are 34-33-7 with 77 points, and with only seven games to go, they are four points back of the Montreal Canadiens for the second Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference. The team is 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.
Forward Lucas Raymond has a team-leading 74 points by way of 26 goals and 48 assists, while Alex DeBrincat and captain Dylan Larkin are tied for second with 64 points. DeBrincat, who joined the Red Wings in 2023-24, leads the team in goals with 34.
Detroit’s next game is Sunday when they host the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers. Puck drop is at 5:30 p.m. EDT.
