Detroit Red Wings sign David Perron to two-year contract
The Detroit Red Wings and David Perron are closing in on a new contract, according to a report by Daily Faceoff‘s Frank Seravalli.
Perron, 34, scored 27 goals and 57 points in 67 games with the St. Louis Blues in 2021–22. He added nine goals and 13 points in 12 playoff games as the Blues fell to the Colorado Avalanche in the second round.
In 973 career NHL games with the Blues, Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Edmonton Oilers, Perron has scored 269 goals and 665 points. He’s also scored 24 goals and 61 points in 104 career playoff contests and was a key component in the Blues’ 2019 Stanley Cup victory.
This will be Perron’s first contract not signed with the Blues. St. Louis drafted him in the first round of the 2007 NHL Draft before trading him to Edmonton in 2013; he signed back with St. Louis as a UFA in 2016 before being taken by Vegas in the expansion draft the next year. Finally, after one year with the Golden Knights, Perron returned to the Blues again on a four-year deal in 2018.
The Red Wings have been extremely active in the 2022 free agency period, agreeing to terms with Andrew Copp, Olli Maatta, Ben Chiarot, and now Perron. Detroit finished the 2021–22 regular season with a 32–40–10 record, good for sixth in the Atlantic Division.
Perron will join Dylan Larkin, Copp, Jakub Vrana, Tyler Bertuzzi, Lucas Raymond, Pius Suter, Oskar Sundqvist, Adam Erne, Michael Rasmussen, and Givani Smith under contract for 2022–23 with the Red Wings. Detroit also has Filip Zadina as a restricted free agent.
UPDATE — 3:52 p.m. ET
The Red Wings have officially announced Perron’s two-year deal, which carries a cap hit of $4.75 million.
