Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman announced Tuesday that the club has signed forward Emmitt Finnie to a three-year, entry-level contract.

According to CapFriendly, the contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $950,000.

Finnie wrapped up the 2023-24 campaign with the Kamloops Blazers in the Western Hockey League (WHL) where he tallied 19 goals and 40 assists for a career-high 59 points in 62 games. Finnie led the Blazers in goals, assists and points. Kamloops finished last in the WHL this season, one year after hosting the 2023 KIA Memorial Cup that saw Dallas Stars rookie Logan Stankoven and Anaiem Ducks rookie Olen Zellweger showcase their talents.

The Lethbridge, Alberta product was drafted No. 201 overall by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL Draft. During his draft year, Finnie registered nine goals and 26 assists for 35 points in 64 games. It wasn’t until the second half of the regular season that Finnie started to find the scoresheet consistently. At one point, Finnie was on a 15-game point streak where he collected eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points in that frame.

Finnie will report to the Red Wings’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Grand Rapids Griffins on an amateur tryout contract (ATO). Grand Rapids currently sits second in the Central Division with a 31-18-7-4 record and 73 points through 60 games. The Griffins have 12 games remaining in the regular seaosn.
