The Detroit Red Wings announced Tuesday that the club has signed goaltender Michal Postava to a two-year, entry-level contract.

The undrafted 23-year-old spent the 2024-25 campaign with HC Brno Kometa of the top-tier Czech league where through 42 appearances he posted a 23-18-0 showing coupled with a .921 save percentage, 2.39 goals-against average, and three shutouts. Postava’s strong play then continued into the postseason as though 17 showings he found the win column 10 times while posting a .940 save percentage and 1.97 goals-against average en route to the league championship.

In all, the 2024-25 campaign was Postava’s first in the top-ranked Czech league. The 6-foot-2 goaltender previously competed in the Maxa Liga, the second-tier Czech league. With HC Prerov in 2023-24, Postava saw a career-high 44 appearances in which he went 23-20-0 with a .943 save percentage, 1.84 goals-against average, and six shutouts. Postava continued to impress that postseason as through seven contests he registered a .914 save percentage alongside a 2.93 goals-against average. For his efforts, Postava was named to the league’s All-Star Team and was recognized as the Goaltender of the Year. In all, through part of five seasons and 96 total appearances in the Maxa Liga, Postava went 46-46-0 with a .936 save percentage, 2.01 goals-against average, and nine shutouts.

In signing with Detroit, Postava becomes the fifth goaltender under contract with the Red Wings next season alongside NHL netminders Petr Mrazek and Cam Talbot as well as farmhands Sebastian Cossa and Carter Gylander. The Red Wings also have a pair of pending unrestricted free agent goaltenders in Alex Lyon and Jack Campbell as well as pending restricted free agent Alexander Gage, according to PuckPedia.

The Red Wings also have three drafted goaltenders who have not yet signed a contract and remain on their reserve list, counting Landon Miller of the Soo Greyhounds, Rudy Guimond of the Moncton Wildcats, and Trey Augustine of the Michigan State Spartans.
