Devils’ re-sign Kurtis MacDermid to three-year contract

New Jersey Devils President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Tom Fitzgerald announced that the club has signed Kurtis MacDermid to a three-year, $3,450,000 contract extension. The contract will have an average annual value (AAV) of $1.15 million.

MacDermid appeared in 16 games with the Devils during the 2023-24 regular season and tallied one assist and 50 penalty minutes. MacDermird’s four fighting majors were among the top of the NHL this season. MacDermid was acquired by the Devils at the trade deadline from the Colorado Avalanche for Zakhar Bardakov and a 2024 seventh-round pick.
MacDermid spent three seasons with Colorado, after being acquired by the Avs’ from the Seattle Kraken shortly after the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. MacDermid was part of the Avs’ 2022 Stanley Cup run where he appeared in 56 games during the regular season.
In seven NHL seasons, the Quebec City native has appeared in 265 career NHL regular-season games, scoring 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points while accumulating, 368 penalty minutes with the Devils, Avalanche and Los Angeles Kings.
Prior to his pro career, MacDermid spent time in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Owen Sound Attack and Erie Otters. He tallied 16 goals and 53 assists for 69 points and 411 penalty minutes in 201 career games.
