Devils send down rookie Seamus Casey to AHL’s Utica Comets
The New Jersey Devils have sent down defenseman Seamus Casey to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the Utica Comets.
Casey has tallied three goals and four points in eight games while averaging 11:58 minutes of ice time.

— Daily Faceoff – Fantasy (@DFOFantasy) October 21, 2024The 20-year-old signed his entry-level contract in May following his tenure with the University of Michigan Wolverines, where he tallied seven goals and 38 assists for 45 points in 40 games. Casey led all Wolverines defensemen and ranked third among defensemen leaguewide. He earned All-Big Ten First Team honors, was a finalist for the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and was named to both the Big Ten All-Tournament and NCAA All-Regional teams.
The Devils selected Casey No. 46 overall in the 2022 NHL Draft.
During his freshman year with the Wolverines in 2022-23, Casey notched eight goals and 29 points in 37 games and ranked second among Wolverines defensemen behind current Devils defenseman Luke Hughes’ 48 points. The Miami, Florida native was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team and Big Ten All-Tournament Team. Casey also helped Michigan win the 2022-23 Big Ten Tournament championship.
Internationally, Casey has represented the USA at the 2021-22 U18 Men’s World Junior Championship and 2023-24 World Juniors. Casey captured a silver and gold medal, respectively. During the World Juniors, he tallied six assists, the most among American defensemen.
Utica will be in action on Friday against the Laval Rocket and again on Saturday in a doubleheader.
