Things are not going so well in the City of Brotherly Love.

Following a 6-4 loss to a Metropolitan Division rival, the Carolina Hurricanes, the Philadelphia Flyers have dropped two straight games, and three of their last five. The subpar play has pushed the team that had such promise down to the basement of the division, and currently have the worst record in the NHL (4-8-1).

People expected more from the team that narrowly missed the playoffs last season, as the Flyers used an excellent first half to put them in line for a postseason position. However, after a sluggish start to the 2024-25 campaign, many are left wondering if there are some greater issues within the team that need to be fixed if they want to be a contender.

On Thursday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss what has gone wrong with the Flyers and what needs to be fixed to right the ship.

Frank Seravalli: This is a Flyers team that I don’t think has a significant edge in talent over many in the NHL, but should over a team like the San Jose Sharks. Let me remind you that this is a Flyers team that was knocking on the door of the playoffs last year and thought, “Now that we’re adding Matvei Michkov…we are suddenly going to potentially take the next step forward and be part of that conversation.”

They’ve gone in the opposite direction. Gotta solve their goaltending problem, I don’t see any short-term fixes in sight. It still comes down to a talent disparity between the Flyers and every other team. What I would say is: You got a whole host of players who look like they’re disengaged…This is a group that doesn’t look very connected, and I say part of that, even though I believe he’s not going anywhere, comes directly down to John Tortorella.
