The best team in the Pacific Division could be on its way out sooner than expected.

On Wednesday night, the Vegas Golden Knights get set to host the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the second round in this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs. Down 3-1 to the defending Western Conference championship, the Golden Knights have to find a way to stay alive.

It has not been an easy series for Vegas. The team shockingly lost the first two games of the series on home ice, and even when it looked like they were going to work their way back into the series after a dramatic win in Game 3, the Golden Knights failed to match the intensity from the Oilers, losing 3-0 on Monday night.

The question is, is there enough in Vegas’ tank to spur a comeback or at least live to fight another day?

That question was asked on Wednesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, as Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk look at the Golden Knights’ chances of survival.

Tyler Yaremchuk: If I was looking for maybe some positivity from a Vegas perspective, they very rarely ever lose three straight games at the Fortress. After dropping the first two early on in this series, at some point, you’re going to win a home game. I don’t know how much else though, just based on what I’ve seen from this series … I’m not sure what the positive signs are for Vegas.

Frank Seravalli: [The Oilers] completely dominated Vegas in Game 4. They dominated Vegas for 50 minutes of Game 1. They have had huge, significant stretches of this series that the play has been so lopsided and in their favor. It’s not just coming off of the shutout, but the Vegas Golden Knights have struggled to score. Where have their top players been? The fact that we’ve gotten to this point in the playoffs and Jack Eichel has one goal…it’s a little bit shocking.

I’m with you. I’m not seeing a ton of signs for Vegas to try and dig out of this. There’s not really much to hang your hat on. It’s not in the goaltending department – as much as they had an advantage heading into this series with that. Their defense has been okay and they can’t score. It’s kind of been a tough look all the way around.
