Don’t bet against a Connor McDavid heater before the 4 Nations Face-Off

Connor McDavid made his return to the lineup after serving his three-game suspension, and he came back in style with a goal as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Seattle Kraken 4-2. There are now five games left for the Oilers until the start of the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see McDavid go on a hot streak fueled by his recent suspension and the upcoming tournament.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Matt Larkin talked about McDavid’s game last night against the Kraken and how, in the wake of the 4 Nations Face-Off, he may go on a bit of a run.
Tyler Yaremchuk: He only finishes with the one goal, but when [McDavid] was on the ice, shot attempts for 33-14 for the Edmonton Oilers. He was buzzing last night and it wouldn’t surprise anyone if, off his suspension and his little one-week vacation here, Connor McDavid just goes supernova leading into the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Matt Larkin: I think you’re bang on there, and if you look at McDavid’s career splits, can guess what his three best months are in terms of points per game? February, March and April. That is his time where he absolutely cooks.
He’s 11 points back of Nathan MacKinnon for the NHL scoring lead right now, and if you’re placing a bet… I don’t know. I just feel like it’s coming. You can sense the wave. It’s like you’re on the beach, and you see the tidal wave incoming, and it’s the McDavid heater. It’s about to start.
Tyler Yaremchuk: They have five more games until the 4 Nations Face-Off break here and I’ll set the over under at 11.5 points. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if it’s two points per game for Connor McDavid from here until then.
