The Norris Trophy is handed out to the NHL’s Best Defenseman, last year it was awarded to Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes.

This season, there are a number of defensemen who are considered top candidates to win the Norris including Hughes, Cale Makar, Rasmus Dahlin, Adam Fox and more. But one name to consider is Noah Dobson of the New York Islanders.

Dobson notched a career-high 70 points in 79 games last season, which included 60 assists. He added one point in five Stanley Cup Playoff contests. Dobson’s 70 points ranked him seventh among NHL defensemen, and his 60 assists ranked him sixth.

The 2018 No. 12 overall pick has continuously improved his game since making his NHL debut with the Isles during the 2019-20 season. In five seasons, the former Memorial Cup champion has racked up 40 goals and 151 assists for 191 points in 317 games. Dobson has added 10 assists in 31 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.

Today on Daily Faceoff Live, hosts Tyler Yaremchuk and Colby Cohen discuss why Dobson could be a Norris Trophy candidate.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Give me one of your hot takes for the season, we are still early in the year, but give me a hot take for an NHL award.

Colby Cohen: I think Noah Dobson for the Norris Trophy. I think this is the year Dobson can elevate his game to be among the elites. Last season he was an all-star game snub, this year I think he’s going to sit at the top of the mantle for a defenseman in the National Hockey League.
