The NHL Players’ Association has announced that 11 players have elected for salary arbitration this summer.

Player-elected arbitration is an option for restricted free agents who have accumulated a certain amount of professional experience, with the amount of experience required being based on what age they signed their entry-level contract at. It provides the player a bit more negotiating power against their team when they aren’t on the market like an unrestricted free agent is.

If the player and team cannot reach an agreement before a set arbitration date, then both parties will submit their case for a certain amount of money on the player’s next contract, and a neutral arbitrator will select the final number that the team and player will have to sign to. Teams will then be granted a second buyout window to help make salary cap space should this new contract put them over the cap.

The dates to which all of these arbitration cases will occur will be announced at a later date. These players and their teams will still be eligible to sign a contract prior to the case.

Teams are also able to elect for arbitration with a player before the deadline on Sunday evening.

The following players have elected for arbitration:

Morgan Barron, F (Winnipeg Jets)
Lukas Dostal, G (Anaheim Ducks)
Drew Helleson, D (Anaheim Ducks)
Kaapo Kakko, F (Seattle Kraken)
Nicholas Robertson, F (Toronto Maple Leafs)
Dylan Samberg, D (Winnipeg Jets)
Arvid Soderblom, G (Chicago Blackhawks)
Jayden Struble, D (Montreal Canadiens)
Conor Timmins, D (Buffalo Sabres)
Maksim Tsyplakov, F (New York Islanders)
Gabriel Vilardi, F (Winnipeg Jets)

Dostal is an RFA after the conclusion of his two-year contract with a $812,500 cap hit. He’s coming off a career year where he established himself as the Ducks’ starting goalie with a 23-23-7 record, a .903 save percentage, one shutout and 16.29 5v5 goals saved above expected in 54 games. He’s currently projected to get a four-year contract with a $5,219,075 cap hit.

Vilardi is an RFA after the conclusion of his two-year contract with a $3,437,500 million cap hit. He’s also coming off of a career year that saw him put up 27 goals, 34 assists and 61 points in 71 regular season games, and one goal, three assists and four points in nine playoff games. He’s currently projected to get a four-year contract with a $6,820,610 cap hit.

Robertson is an RFA after the conclusion of his one-year, $875,000 contract. He continues to be a solid bottom-six scorer when in the lineup, as he had 15 goals, seven assists and 22 points in 69 regular season games, and one goal, one assist and two points in three playoff games. He’s currently projected to get a two-year contract with a $1,556,650 cap hit.
