Drew Doughty Has Suffered A Minor Knee Sprain
It looks like the Los Angeles Kings can breathe a sigh of relief.
According to Frank Seravalli, Drew Doughty has suffered a relatively minor knee sprain. The team is still awaiting final word from the doctors, which could come as early as Saturday. Should Doughty’s knee sprain be as minor as it appears, it would be a positive prognosis after the scary scene from Friday night’s loss to the Dallas Stars.
Doughty exited the game after a knee-on-knee collision with Stars defenseman Jani Hakanpaa. He was helped off the ice and didn’t return.
The Kings came into the 2021-22 season with a renewed sense of optimism after missing the playoffs in three consecutive years. Los Angeles made a few big additions over the offseason, trading for Viktor Arvidsson and adding Phillip Danault and Alex Edler in free agency.
Losing Doughty, the team’s top defender, for an extended period of time would put a massive dent in the Kings’ playoff aspirations.
Los Angeles is 1-2-1 on the season and Doughty sits second on the team in scoring with seven points in four games.
