On Sunday, the Anaheim Ducks announced that forward Brock McGinn has been placed on injured reserve. The veteran was noticeably absent from the team’s lineup on Saturday night against the Philadelphia Flyers with a lower-body injury.

The Ducks went on to lose the game, 3-1.

McGinn’s placement on IR is retroactive to his last appearance in the lineup on Dec. 23 against the Vegas Golden Knights. Early in the contest, McGinn went to throw a hit on opposing forward Tomas Hertl but came away from the contact limping, favoring his left leg.

McGinn went off the ice and headed to the locker room. He didn’t return to the game. The Ducks lost that by a final score of 3-1 as well.

Per the NHL’s IR rules, he could return as soon as Tuesday night when Anaheim hosts the New Jersey Devils.

The injury is another in the growing list of ailments that have plagued the 30-year-old in recent years. McGinn was placed on IR with another lower-body injury in November, which kept him out for over three weeks. Last February, he was put on IR with an upper-body injury that ended up requiring surgery, ending his 2023-24 campaign prematurely.

McGinn has played in 26 of the Ducks’ 34 games this season, scoring four goals and four assists for eight points. It is the most points the Fergus, Ontario native has scored since the 2022-23 campaign, when he posted 19 points in 75 games with the Ducks and Pittsburgh Penguins.

In 534 NHL appearances, McGinn has scored 80 goals and 78 assists for 158 points, including 14 points in 41 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

The Ducks (13-17-4) are seventh in the Pacific Division, 11 points back of the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
