Ducks place Robby Fabbri, Cam Fowler on IR; Mason McTavish out day-to-day
The Anaheim Ducks announced that they have placed center Robby Fabbri and defenseman Cam Fowler on injured reserve, while center Mason McTavish is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
It’s unclear as to what caused Fabbri’s lower-body injury, as he played for a majority of Sunday’s 4-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. He didn’t play in the final 4:43 of the game, but that was likely more of a strategic choice to protect their lead than him leaving the game with an injury concern. His IR placement rules him out of the next two games for the Ducks, as he won’t be eligible until next Monday’s game against the Dallas Stars.
Fabbri has had a very slow start to the season, with just 2 goals on the year despite playing in all 14 games for the Ducks before the injury. Should the next two games be the only two that he misses this year, his 11-point pace would be the second-worst total of his career, but he’s also only played at least 60 games in a season twice.
Fowler was also placed on IR on Tuesday, as he has missed the past two games with an upper-body injury. This placement likely indicates that Fowler also won’t return to the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights.
Fowler has also had a slow start to the season, with just 2 assists in the 12 games he has played this year. That puts him on pace for just 13 points this season, which would be the worst production of his career outside of the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season, where he had 11 points.
McTavish didn’t skate during the Ducks’ practice on Tuesday, and is still day-to-day with an upper-body that caused him to miss Sunday’s game. He still hasn’t been ruled out of Wednesday’s game, but his status might not be known until the start of the game.
McTavish has had a slightly more productive start to the season, as he has 2 goals and 6 assists for 8 points in 13 game. That currently puts him on pace for 49 points this season, which would be a career high for the center, although last season’s 42 points came in just 64 games.
The Ducks will look to build off of their win over the Blue Jackets when they host the Golden Knights on Wednesday at 7 p.m. PST. Anaheim currently sits in last in the Pacific Division with a 5-7-2 record.
