Dylan Guenther’s contract with Utah already looks like a bargain
As we transition into 2025, Dylan Guenther is certainly going to be a player to watch out for, not just on the Utah Hockey Club, but in the NHL. In the year of 2024, he had 34 goals and 68 points in 82 games, and so far this season, he has 16 goals and 33 points in 37 games, and seems to poised to take even bigger steps this year.
Tyler Yaremchuk and Frank Seravalli talked about their players to watch in 2025, with Guenther being one of their choices.
Tyler Yaremchuk: I’m going with Dylan Guenther. And you know, maybe it’s a little bit of homerism. He’s an Edmonton boy, I remember covering him back in his WHL days with the Edmonton Oil Kings.
But I also remember this stretch, and it came about this time in the year, in his second season with the Oil Kings, where the effort didn’t get any better, nothing changed, but pucks started to go in. And what he did was he learned where he could release pucks at the WHL level in those soft spots that you hear of elite goal scorers finding. And I think about that with his NHL game now.
The goals were coming for him at the start of this year, and he’s hit a little bit of a cold snap here in the last month. But I think this is a guy who, in the next year, is going to once again figure out where those soft spots are. He’s so smart and his shot is so good.
I think Utah locking this guy up to the seven-year, $7,142,857 extension was an unbelievable piece of business because I think this guy’s going to be a 40 goal scorer more often than not throughout his seven-year deal.
Frank Seravalli: I think that contract is already a bargain. He’s on track for 35 goals this year, was recently trending up closer to 40.
