Edmonton Oilers acquire Brett Kulak from Montreal Canadiens
The Edmonton Oilers have acquired left-shot defenseman Brett Kulak from the Montreal Canadiens, according to Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli. The return: defenseman William Lagesson and a 2023 second-round draft pick.
“The Canadiens were certainly interested in hanging on to Brett Kulak,” said Seravalli on the Daily Faceoff Trade Deadline live show. “They weren’t necessarily looking to move him, they were kind of waiting and listening, seeing if someone would step up and pay the price that they were looking for… They get their left-shot defenseman, and at a price point on the salary cap that certainly works for Ken Holland and the Oilers.”
Kulak, 28, has three goals and 10 assists through 56 games this season with the Habs.
Lagesson, 26, has split time between Edmonton and AHL Bakersfield this season. In 30 games with the Oilers, he had four points while averaging just 12:20 of ice time in a depth role. Earlier this season, the Oilers drew the ire of his agent Allan Walsh when then-coach Dave Tippett scratched Lagesson without telling him.
