The Edmonton Oilers are drifting into rare territory with their winning streak, as they’ve now won 15 games in a row.

That 15th-straight win came courtesy of Thursday’s 3-0 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks. Oilers captain Connor McDavid led the way with two of the three goals and the primary assist on the other goal. Zach Hyman was the other goal-scorer for the Oilers, while Leon Draisaitl had three assists and Pickard wound up making 27 saves to get his fifth win in eight games this season, and his first shutout since November 23rd, 2018.

It’s a feat that becomes more impressive as this streak has gone on and they’ve started to receive more attention in the league.

“If I was on the other team, I’d be thinking the same thing,” said Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins after the game. “We’re not thinking too much of it. We’re just trying to play the same way every night, and right now it’s paying off.”

“Over the course of the last month and change, we’ve had a lot of these situations where we get into tight games,” said Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse. “The only way you get comfortable with it is playing within those situations more and more, and we’ve done a good job of it lately.”

With the win, the Oilers have become the fifth team in NHL history to win 15 games in a row, and the first team since 2017 to accomplish the feat. They join the Pittsburgh Penguins (1992-93 and 2012-13), Columbus Blue Jackets (2016-17) and New York Islanders (1981-82) as the only teams to win at least 15 games in a row. The 1992-93 Penguins currently hold the NHL record with 17.

The Oilers will look to continue this streak when they host the Nashville Predators on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST. They currently sit in third place in the Pacific Division with a 28-15-1 record.
