“It’s been up and down, but that X is beside our name and that’s step one,” Corey Perry told reporters after the game. “That’s what we talk about … you come to training camp, step one is to make the playoffs, and then step two is to get in and get going and see where we can go from there. It’s nice to have that beside our name right now.”
Going into Friday night’s game, the Oilers are 46-28-5 with 97 points, third in the Pacific Division. Edmonton will likely play the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will be the fourth consecutive year the two teams have faced off in Round 1.
Leon Draisaitl leads the team in goals and points with 52 and 106, respectively, while Connor McDavid, who missed 14 games with injury or suspension, has a team-leading 71 assists. Bouchard leads all blueliners with 66 points by way of 14 goals and 52 assists.
Last season, the Oilers went 49-27-6 with 104 points, second in the Pacific Division. They won the Western Conference championship, then lost in seven games to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.
