The Edmonton Oilers will be without winger Connor Brown for the rest of Sunday’s Game 3 against the Dallas Stars, as he left the game with an undisclosed injury.

Brown sustained the injury late in the second period when he took a hard hit to the head from Stars defenseman Alex Petrovic. Brown left the game shortly after, and was confirmed to not be returning to the game at the start of the third period.

Brown leaves the game with a hit and a giveaway in 8:46 of ice time, with the Oilers being up 2-1 at the time of his departure, although Jason Robertson had just scored to cut that lead in half for the Stars.

Despite the head being a main target for the hit, Petrovic did not receive a penalty for the play. There is currently no word as to whether or not he will receive any supplementary discipline from the NHL Department of Player Safety for the hit.

Brown has been having an excellent playoff run for the Oilers, with 5 goals and 3 assists for 8 points in 14 games. His goal and point totals are a career-high for him in a playoff season. He also had 13 goals and 17 assists for 30 points in 82 games in the regular season.

With Brown out of the lineup, his linemates on the Oilers’ third line in Adam Henrique and Evander Kane have been spread throughout the lineup. Kane has regularly played with Edmonton’s top six forwards, while Henrique has played more with their bottom six forwards.

Should Brown miss any further games with the injury, the Oilers have several options in the press box to replace him in Viktor Arvidsson, James Hamblin, Max Jones, Noah Philp, Derek Ryan, Matt Savoie and Jeff Skinner. Arvidsson would be the likely replacement, as he’s played the most games in the playoffs of that bunch with 9, where he had 1 goal, 3 assists and 4 points.
