Oilers were a disaster in Game 3 loss to Panthers

It’s safe to say Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final was a night that both Edmonton Oilers fans and players would love to forget.
From giving up a goal in the opening minute of the game to the gong show that came in the closing minutes, the Oilers seemed to have few answers for the Florida Panthers in a 6-1 loss. Though Edmonton had some quality chances, they were unable to stop the bleeding.
Along with being unable to slow down the Panthers’ momentum, the Oilers were not able to get into a rhythm, whether it be at 5-on-5 or with the power play. It led to a long night, leading to the team having to play catch up, down 2-1 in the series. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were non-factors for the most part, and were on the brunt end of some of that physical play that the Cats like to flaunt.
On Tuesday’s edition of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss what went wrong for the Western Conference champions on Monday night.
Frank Seravalli: I don’t know if they were caught off guard, but they weren’t able to handle the punch that Florida threw. That was just the beginning of the Oilers being completely off-kilter. What followed was a parade to the penalty box, really difficult to find any flow in the first period. In some ways, they were really kind of lucky to get out of it down just two. You think of the way the rest of the game played out, it was kind of more of the same. Florida was physical. They were in your face. Any part of any way that the Edmonton Oilers wanted to play the game, the Florida Panthers were ready for it.
I think looking at that moving forward, that’s going to be the real challenge for Edmonton is trying to figure out how to have a more impactful game that Florida controlled the style, the pace, every part of it.
