Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid named 2023 Ted Lindsay Award winner
Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid has been named the winner of the Ted Lindsay Award, voted upon by the players and given annually to the National Hockey League’s most valuable player.
McDavid, 26, collected 64 goals and 153 points in 82 games with the Edmonton Oilers during the 2022–23 regular season. He added eight goals and 20 points in 12 games as the Oilers lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in the second round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak and San Jose Sharks defenseman Erik Karlsson were also named finalists for the Ted Lindsay Award. McDavid previously won the award in 2017, 2018, and 2021.
McDavid already won the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy and the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s top goal-scorer and point-getter in the 2022–23 season. He’s also up for the Hart Memorial Trophy, the MVP award voted upon by members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association.

The Oilers originally selected McDavid with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft. He was their fourth No. 1 overall pick in a span of six drafts, joining Taylor Hall, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and Nail Yakupov.
McDavid made his NHL debut with the Oilers in the 2015–16 season. He won his first Art Ross, Ted Lindsay, and Hart trophies the following year.
In his eight seasons with the Oilers, McDavid has won five Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorial Trophies, four Ted Lindsay Awards, and one Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy.
McDavid has collected 303 goals and 850 points in 569 career games. He’s added 29 goals and 75 points in 49 playoff contests, although he still has yet to win a game past the second round.
The Ted Lindsay Award, like most NHL awards, is voted upon at the end of the regular season. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews won the award in 2022.
