The Edmonton Oilers are facing questions about their goaltending in the Stanley Cup Playoffs once again after head coach Kris Knoblauch pulled Stuart Skinner in favor of Calvin Pickard during a 6-1 blowout loss to the Florida Panthers in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Skinner has been excellent ever since he took the crease back during the team’s second round series against the Vegas Golden Knights, but he gave way to Pickard, who rattled off four straight wins in the first two rounds, following a pair of losses to start the postseason against the Los Angeles Kings.

On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and Insider and President of Hockey Content Frank Seravalli discussed the need for Skinner to step up and settle in if he gets the net back for Game 4.

Frank Seravalli: Over-effort probably also perfectly describes Stuart Skinner. Because, I mean think of the way that he was swimming out of the crease on multiple goals. He didn’t look good, and that he was replaced by Cal Pickard, I was actually surprised that it didn’t happen at the end of that second period in that intermission. That would have been the perfect time to do it. Maybe the thought process for Kris Knoblauch was that with the double off day, that they would have plenty of time to rest and see if he could find some confidence. I think that it’s not a forgone conclusion that Stuart Skinner starts in Game 4. I would think seriously about starting Cal Pickard.

Tyler Yaremchuk: Yeah, I would agree with you on that, but that’s a conversation to have… There definitely are some other lineup decisions Kris Knoblauch should be contemplating.
