We know some of the details that led to one of the Edmonton Oilers’ key players being ruled out for the rest of the year.

Prior to Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Florida Panthers, forward Zach Hyman told the media that he dislocated his wrist, along with tearing some ligaments in his wrist.

While he’s already working to get back to 100 percent, Hyman couldn’t say whether he will be ready for training camp in September.

Hyman was hurt in Game 4 of the Western Conference Final after taking a hit from Dallas Stars forward Mason Marchment, with the majority of the impact connecting to his arm. He managed to skate off the ice under his own power but immediately went down the tunnel to the team’s locker room and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Hyman also revealed the first person who came to comfort him was captain Connor McDavid. The multi-time Hart Trophy winner approached Hyman

“Honestly, that’s when I broke down,” Hyman said. “It meant a lot.”

The Oilers were able to win the series in five games, but Hyman’s absence could be detrimental to the team’s chances of avenging last year’s loss to the Panthers in the final. Hyman brings a solid scoring touch, along with a significant edginess that matches well with Florida’s aggressive attack.

Prior to his injury, Hyman had played every game in the postseason, scoring five goals and six assists for 11 points. Currently, he’s tied with Evander Kane for fifth on the team in scoring in these playoffs.

Game 1 of the final is set for Wednesday night, with puck drop scheduled for a little after 8 p.m. ET.
