Oilers’ Mattias Ekholm, Zach Hyman leave game against Sharks with injuries

Edmonton Oilers’ forward Zach Hyman and defenseman Mattias Ekholm left Friday’s game against the San Jose Sharks with undisclosed injuries and did not return.
Oilers announce that neither Ekholm nor Hyman will return tonight.

The Oilers won the game 4-2, thanks to a four-assist night from captain Connor McDavid, and goals from Evan Bouchard, Ty Emberson, Corey Perry and Connor Brown. With the win, the Oilers clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Before Friday’s game, Ekholm had nine goals and 24 assists for 33 points in 64 regular-season games. Now in his 14th NHL season, the 34-year-old defender has 86 goals and 274 assists for 360 points in 883 regular-season games with the Oilers and Nashville Predators.
As for Hyman, the Edmonton winger has 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points in 72 games. The Toronto native is now in his 10th season, and in 652 regular-season games, he has 230 goals and 213 assists for 443 points.
Last season, Hyman recorded his first career 50-goal season, finishing with 54 goals and 77 points.
After Friday’s game, the Oilers are 46-28-5 with 97 points, third in the Pacific Division. Edmonton will likely play the Los Angeles Kings in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will be the fourth consecutive year the two teams have faced off in Round 1.
Leon Draisaitl leads the team in goals and points with 52 and 106, respectively, while McDavid, who missed 14 games with injury or suspension, has a team-leading 71 assists. Bouchard leads all blueliners with 66 points by way of 14 goals and 52 assists.
