After another disappointing loss to the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final, the Edmonton Oilers will likely be looking for a new goaltender to take over for Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

On Monday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are joined by former NHL goaltender Carter Hutton for another addition of “The Blue Paint” to discuss the Oilers’ goaltending situation and what comes next for an Edmonton group trying to get over the hump.

Tyler Yaremchuk: The Oilers are the No. 1 team that everyone is pointing at and saying they need a goalie on the market. Is it free agency? Is it trade? Who do you tihnk is the best fit for the Oilers?

Carter Hutton: I think they need to get someone with a little more credibility and age gap. When you look at this team, yes they were serviceable and they got to the Stanley Cup Final again, but when they needed the goaltending most, they never got it. That’s two years in a row where they needed a guy to be a difference maker and steal a few games for them.

I don’t know if you rush right to free agency and pay for a mid guy. I don’t know if you wait and see where the market goes, because it’s a thin market right now. You look at Jake Allen, and I don’t know if he’s the piece, or if you want to jump on John Gibson, because that’s a lot of money.

I think Thatcher Demko is the best available guy, because he’s a superstar. But that injury status that just looms over him is worrisome for a team that, if you’re going to make a big blockbuster trade for a goalie like Demko, then have him on the Injured Reserve all year, it doesn’t really help your chances.
