Edmonton Oilers sign Brady Stonehouse to entry-level contract

The Edmonton Oilers have signed undrafted forward Brady Stonehouse to a three-year entry-level contract.

Stonehouse was first available for the 2022 NHL Draft, but was passed over the past two years. The 5-foot-10 winger is coming off of a 37-goal, 57-point sophomore OHL campaign, giving him 92 points in his first 136 games. Stonehouse is back with the 67’s this year, registering three shots in his season debut against the Petes on Friday.

Known for his aggressive play, Stonehouse was part of Edmonton’s roster during the Young Stars Classic tournament in Penticton, B.C. He scored a goal against Calgary, and would go on to stay with the team for the first few days of main camp. He was returned to the OHL on Sept. 26.

Over the summer, Stonehouse took part in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence camp as an off-ice preparation step for the 2024 World Junior Championship. Stonehouse has an outside chance of making the team as a bottom-six energy forward with a penchant for scoring.

Stonehouse plays a power forward game, going all-out as a goal-scorer and a physical attacker. Stonehouse is a strong skater with a good shot, but his playmaking decision-making could use some work. He comes from a good hockey family, too: his father, Jeff, had a four-year run with Harvard University. His younger sister, Abby, was one of Canada’s best players at the U-18 women’s tournament and will join Penn State in 2024.

The Oilers will host the Seattle Kraken for the team’s final preseason contest on Friday evening at 7:00 PM local time. They’ll kick off the season on Wednesday, Oct. 11 on the road against Vancouver before hosting their home opener Oct. 14, also against the Canucks.
