Oilers sign David Tomasek to one-year, $1.2 million contract
The Edmonton Oilers are already trying to bolster their roster for next, signing a talented scorer from afar.
On Wednesday, the team announced it has signed forward David Tomasek to a one-year contract. The deal, which will take place during the 2025-26 season, will carry a cap hit of $1.2 million.
The 29-year-old has spent the last decade touring around Europe, spending time in the Czech Extraliga, Liiga, Kontinental Hockey League and Swedish Hockey League.
Tomasek has spent the past two years with Färjestad BK of the SHL, and has been one of the team’s most efficient offensive weapons. After notching a respectable 45 points in 52 games last year, leading the league with 25 goals, the Praha, Czechia native scored 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 47 contests in 2024-25. Tomasek led the SHL in assists and points, having posted nine points in nine games during the Champions Hockey League season.
Tomasek’s play was earning so much attention by the Oilers’ brass that general manager Stan Bowman traveled to Sweden during the 4 Nations Face-Off break to see him firsthand.

While in Czechia, he’s had the opportunity to play for his native Sparta Praha for parts of four seasons, scoring a career-high 47 points in 50 games during the 2020-21 campaign.
Tomasek isn’t unfamiliar with playing in North America, though it has been a minute. He played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Belleville Bulls during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons, coming up through the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies system just outside of Detroit.
Along with his immense pro experience, Tomasek has represented his country on many occasions. He has played for Czechia in the EuroHockey Tour eight times, being an impact player for his team over the past two IIHF Men’s World Championships, taking home the gold medal last spring in Czechia.
