Edmonton Oilers sign winger Mattias Janmark to one-year extension
Mattias Janmark isn’t going anywhere, people.
The Edmonton Oilers have confirmed that Janmark has signed a one-year, $1 million deal to remain with the club.
The Oilers signed the forward to a one-year contract early last summer, but would get sent down to Bakersfield of the AHL due to cap constraints. He was called up in November after Evander Kane went down with a wrist injury, with Janmark remaining with the club for the rest of the season.
The 30-year-old had 10 goals and 25 points in 66 games, his second 25-point campaign and third of his career. Janmark had a career-high 19 goals and 34 points in 2017-18 with Dallas, a year that saw him record 10 points at the World Championship with Sweden.
Janmark is a speedy forward, giving them some extra depth scoring at a cheap price. The club has $7.1 million in cap available cap space, with $21 million tied to Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl next year.
The Oilers now have just two UFAs of note, with Nick Bjugstad and Devin Shore set to hit the market. Oscar Klefbom, Ryan Murray and Mike Smith are the three players on LTIR that will also become UFAs.
Evan Bouchard and Ryan McLeod are RFAs, with Evan Bouchard expected to get a solid raise after his late-season surge, while prospects Raphael Lavoie, Oliver Rodrigue and Noah Philip are also set to become RFAs.
The Oilers were knocked out of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs after falling to the eventual Stanley cup champions, from the Vegas Golden Knights.
