The Edmonton Oilers have bolstered their roster ahead of the March 7 NHL trade deadline.

On Tuesday, the club completed a three-way trade with the Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils that will see the Oilers add forwards Max Jones and Trent Frederic from the Bruins.

As part of the deal, Frederic was first dealt to the Devils, with 50 percent of his $2.3-million annual average value retained by the Bruins in exchange for right winger Petr Hauser. The Devils then retained an additional 50 percent of the remaining annual average value prior to flipping Frederic to the Oilers for left winger Shane Lachance.

The Bruins then moved Jones plus Hauser to the Oilers for defenseman Max Wanner, a 2025 second-round selection that was previously acquired from the St. Louis Blues, as well as the Oilers’ own fourth-round selection in the 2026 NHL Draft.

Through 57 appearances with the Bruins this season, Frederic has notched eight goals and seven assists for 15 points alongside 44 penalty minutes and a minus-14 rating. The 27-year-old St. Louis, Mo., native is one season removed from a career-high 40-point finish that saw him post 18 goals and 22 assists in 82 contests. Originally chosen 29th overall by the Bruins in the 2016 NHL Draft, Frederic has collected 55 goals and 54 assists for 109 points in 337 career contests. Frederic has also tallied three goals and two assists for five points through 22 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Frederic can become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Jones joins the Oilers after splitting the 2024-25 campaign between the Bruins and the AHL affiliate in Providence. Through seven outings with the Bruins, Jones recorded eight penalty minutes and a minus-four mark. The 27-year-old native of Rochester, Mich., was more productive with Providence as he posted 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points in 38 contests. Originally chosen 24th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2016 NHL Draft, Jones has totaled 31 goals and 31 assists for 62 points through 265 career contests with the Ducks and Bruins.
