The Edmonton Oilers will be without left winger Zach Hyman until early November following offseason wrist surgery, Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch confirmed Thursday per TSN’s Ryan Rishaug.

The injured occured in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs and sidelined Hyman for the remaining seven games of the Oilers’ postseason run, including all six games versus the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.

In 2024-25, Hyman made 73 appearances with the Oilers in which he collected 27 goals and 17 assists for 44 points. Hyman then added another 11 points counting five goals and six assists through 15 playoff games.

The upcoming campaign marks Hyman’s fifth with the Oilers, part of an eight-year contract that carries a $5.5-million cap hit, according to PuckPedia. Through his time with the Oilers, Hyman has reached offensive highs in all major categories, including 54 goals in 2023-24 and 83 points in 2022-23.

A 2010 fifth-round selection by the Panthers, the 33-year-old Toronto native has since seen 653 career contests with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Oilers in which he has registered 230 goals and 213 assists for 443 points, including six seasons where he has reached the 20-plus goal plateau.

For the Oilers, the club enters the 2025-26 season following back-to-back Stanley Cup Final losses to the Panthers. It could also mark the final season in Edmonton for captain Connor McDavid, who is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

“I’ve said since June, I’m going to take my time with [the next contract], and I still intend to do that,” McDavid said earlier Thursday, per Sportsnet’s 32 Thoughts Podcast. “That’s a big decision. It’s not something I take lightly or my family takes lightly.”

McDavid closed out the 2024-25 season with 26 goals and 74 assists, marking the fifth-straight year in which he reached triple-digit point production.
