The Carolina Hurricanes have their guy.

As reported by Daily Faceoff insider Frank Seravalli on June 10, the team has officially announced that Eric Tulsky will take over as the team’s full-time general manager ahead of the 2024-25 NHL campaign.

Tulsky was named interim GM in Raleigh after Don Waddell stepped down late last month after a decade with the team. Waddell has since joined the Columbus Blue Jackets as president of hockey operations and general manager.

“Eric is ready for this opportunity,” owner Tom Dundon said in a team release. “He has a proven history of managing people and overseeing operations both outside of hockey and over the last decade with the Hurricanes. His dedication, work ethic and attention to detail make him the ideal candidate to become our next general manager. Everything we do here is collaborative, and Eric will work closely with Darren Yorke, Rod Brind’Amour and our leadership team to continue building a championship-caliber hockey club.”

While Tulsky does not have the same amount of experience as Waddell, he has been with the Canes as long as Waddell had. Tulsky came to the franchise as a consultant in 2014. The Philadelphia native then became an analyst in 2015, before being named manager of hockey analytics in 2017. He was promoted to vice president of hockey management strategy the next year and was eventually named assistant general manager in 2020.

Though Tulsky has not been in the limelight as his predecessor, he has been involved in all player personnel decisions and oversees the Canes’ hockey information department and pro scouting.

Tulsky has the task of continuing to build on what Waddell has done for the last several years. Carolina has consistently been one of the top teams in the NHL but has been unable to get the job done in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Over Waddell’s tenure, the Hurricanes made it as far as the Eastern Conference final twice, in 2019 and 2023, losing to the eventual runner-ups both times.
