Would Evgeni Malkin really leave the Penguins?

Legendary Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin is entering the last season of his contract with the team.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion has racked up 1,346 points in 1,213 games, and he eclipsed the 500-goal mark in October.
According to Josh Yohe of The Athletic, this season, his 20th, will be the last one he spends in Pittsburgh. Whether or not Malkin retires from the NHL after it remains to be seen, according to Yohe.
On Tuesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, host Tyler Yaremchuk and Insider and President of Hockey Content Frank Seravalli discussed whether or not the Penguins or Malkin would entertain the idea of a trade if the team is not competitive in 2025-2026, as seems likely to be the case.
Tyler Yaremchuk: It seems like all directions are pointing to Malkin playing his final NHL season this year, and all signs are kind of pointing to the Penguins not being that competitive. The take is this, Frank: Evgeni Malkin will at some point appear on your trade targets board next season. One through ten?
Frank Seravalli: Two. I would say that I don’t think Evgeni Malkin has shown a lot of interest in playing elsewhere. I think Evgeni Malkin is one of the last remaining things that’s tying Sidney Crosby to Pittsburgh. I think Crosby hasn’t really spent much time entertaining, at least as far as I can tell, playing elsewhere, but I think especially he doesn’t have an interest in making a decision on anything until after his career has wrapped up playing with Malkin. I think Kyle Dubas would love it. I think he would like to turn over this roster as soon as possible, but this year is one more step in that process.
