The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Brayden Pachal to a two-year contract extension on Tuesday. The deal will pay Pachal $1,187,000 per season.

Through 31 games this season, Pachal has a goal and an assist, averaging 14:31 of ice time along with 27 penalty minutes.

In four NHL seasons, Pachal has three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 93 regular-season games with the Flames and Vegas Golden Knights. He was part of the Golden Knights’ 2023 Stanley Cup championship.

Undrafted, the Estevan, Sask., native played five seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Victoria Royals and Prince Albert Raiders. He helped the Raisers win a WHL Championship in 2018-19, scoring 15 goals and adding 36 assists for 51 points in 66 regular-season games, followed by a goal and seven assists for eight points in 23 playoff games.

Through the 2024-25 season, the Flames are 15-11-5 with 33 points, fifth in the Pacific Division but still in the hunt for a Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. They’re 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, but Saturday they defeated the Florida Panthers 3-0 at home.

Forward Jonathan Huberdeau leads the club with 21 points (11 goals and 10 assists), while Nazem Kadri has 11 goals and nine assists for 20 points. Defenseman MacKenzie Weegar leads the team with 12 assists, along with four goals for 16 points.

Calgary continues their five-game home stand on Tuesday when they host the Boston Bruins, followed by games against the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks.
