With Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final between the Edmonton Oilers and Florida Panthers taking place Wednesday night, lots of focus is on the biggest names from each team. Connor McDavid, Matthew Tkachuk, Leon Draisaitl, Aleksander Barkov, Evan Bouchard and Sam Reinhart are the names and personalities leading the way in the league’s championship series.

But one player who has really stood out for the Panthers is Anton Lundell. As Florida’s third-line center, the 23-year-old has engrained himself as one of the most valuable players in the Panthers’ forward corps, scoring five goals and recording seven assists for 12 points in 17 games this spring. Taken No. 12 overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Lundell has carved out a major role for himself on a Florida team that’s now clinched three consecutive Stanley Cup Final appearances.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk are live in Edmonton ahead of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. They discuss the players in the series who are under the radar, with Seravalli examining Lundell’s worth to a Panthers squad trying to win their second of back-to-back Stanley Cup championships.

Frank Seravalli: For me, I’m going with Anton Lundell. That line of Lundell, Eetu Luostarinen and Brad Marchand have crushed opponents at five-on-five, outscoring them 10-2 so far in the playoffs. We talked about Adam Henrique and the defensive responsibilities for the Oilers, but for the Panthers, they play defense and can get on the offense and create.

It all starts with their big-brain center that can really help make a lot of things happen. Lundell plays pretty sizeable minutes in a third-line role, and impacts so many different areas of the ice, but also produces.
