The Florida Panthers announced on social media that forward Sam Reinhart would not return to Game 2 of their Eastern Conference Finals matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes after suffering a lower-body injury in the first period on Thursday night.

The injury appeared to happen with five minutes to go in the first period after Reinhart entered the Hurricanes’ zone, with Carolina forward Sebastian Aho delivering a low hit that sent Reinhart to the ice. He would go to the locker room and not return.

At the time of the injury, Reinhart had recorded one hit and 5:37 of ice time.

Going into Thursday night, Reinhart had four goals and seven assists for 11 points in 13 games. In 79 regular season games this year, the 29-year-old forward had recorded 39 goals and 42 assists for 81 points.

Now in his 11th NHL season, Reinhart, taking No. 2 overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, has 294 goals and 325 assists for 619 points in 775 career regular-season games with the Panthers and Sabres.

Reinhart has also scored 25 goals and 19 assists for 44 points in 68 career Stanley Cup Playoff games. He helped the Panthers win their first championship last season, scoring 10 goals and six assists for 16 points in 24 games.

The Panthers went into Thursday night with a 1-0 series lead after defeating the Hurricanes 5-2 in Game 1 of their third-round series matchup. Games 3 and 4, home games for the Panthers, will be Saturday and Monday, respectively.
