The Florida Panthers have signed forward A.J. Greer to a two-year contract, the club announced Monday afternoon.

Greer, 27, appeared in 59 games with the Calgary Flames during the 2023-24 regular season, collecting six goals, 12 points, and 35 penalty minutes. The Flames claimed Greer off waivers from the Boston Bruins at the end of their 2023 training camp.

The Win Column‘s James Johnson was the first to report the news of Greer joining the Panthers. The 6’3″ left wing’s new contract carries an $850,000 cap hit in each of the next two seasons.

“A.J. is an effective forward whose utilizes his size and strength at both ends of the ice,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said in a release on Monday. “We are excited to welcome him to South Florida.”

The Colorado Avalanche originally selected Greer in the second round (No. 39 overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. The Joliette, Quebec product made his NHL debut with the Avalanche in the 2016-17 season.

The Avalanche traded Greer to the New York Islanders in 2020, but he never played an NHL game for the team before being flipped again to the New Jersey Devils at the 2021 trade deadline. Greer skated in 10 games over parts of two seasons with the Devils, collecting two points.

Finally, Greer established himself as an NHL regular with the Bruins in the 2022-23 season, collecting five goals and 12 points to go along with 114 penalty minutes in 61 games. However, he did not dress for the Bruins in the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Through 167 career NHL games over parts of seven seasons with the Avalanche, Devils, Bruins, and Flames, Greer has collected 13 goals and 32 points.

Coincidentally, the Flames signed a bottom-six forward away from the Panthers on Monday, agreeing to terms on a two-year deal with depth winger Ryan Lomberg — seemingly to replace Greer in their lineup.
