Flyers activate Nick Seeler off IR, set to make season debut against Capitals

The Philadelphia Flyers have activated defenseman Nick Seeler off injured reserve and he will make his season debut tonight versus the Washington Capitals.

Seeler was injured in a preseason game against the Boston Bruins on Oct. 1, the 31-year-old took a puck to the knee. He had attempted to skate a few times since then, but it didn’t last long enough for him to participate with the rest of the team.

Back in March, the Flyers signed Seeler to a four-year contract worth $2.7 million per season. Seeler tallied 13 points, 78 penalty minutes, and 132 hits in 71 games during the 2023-24 campaign with Philadelphia.

Seeler is in his fourth season with the Flyers after joining the club in 2021-22. Under the previous Flyers regime of Chuck Fletcher, he signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000.

Seeler was originally selected No. 131 overall in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft by the Minnesota Wild. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota product spent parts of three seasons with the Wild appearing in 99 games and notching 11 points and 93 penalty minutes. Seeler also spent parts of one season with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2019-20, appearing in six games. Throughout his NHL career, Seeler has racked up 42 points in 296 career games.

Philadelphia is 1-3-1 to start the 2024-25 season, following their doubleheader tonight and tomorrow against the Capitals, the Flyers will be in action on Saturday against the Minnesota Wild in a matinee game.
