Dating back to his days at Boston University, Chiasson was a player with a definitive scoring touch and provided many teams with complementary offense.
Chiasson played 11 seasons in the NHL, with his journey beginning in 2009 when he was taken in the second round, 38th overall, by the Dallas Stars. He would debut with the team during the 2012-13 campaign and would spend two seasons with the organization before he was traded to the Ottawa Senators in July 2014.
After two seasons with the Sens, the Montreal native was on the move again, as he was dealt to the Calgary Flames in June 2016. Chiasson continued to bounce around the league, signing a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals the following year, and was a member of the team that won the franchise’s first Stanley Cup in 2018.
The following summer, Chiasson joined the Edmonton Oilers, making an immediate impact by scoring a career-high 22 goals and 38 points during the 2018-19 campaign. After three years in Alberta, he moved west, joining the Vancouver Canucks for the 2021-22 season.
Chiasson began the 2022-23 campaign on an American Hockey League contract with the Grand Rapids Griffins, the primary affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings. He would sign a deal to join the Red Wings in March of that season, playing 20 games and scoring six goals and nine points by the regular season’s end.
In 651 career appearances, Chiasson scored 120 goals and 113 assists for 233 points, including seven points in 37 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
