The Western Hockey League (WHL) prospects draft began on Wednesday, which saw Maddox Schultz get picked first overall by the Regina Pats.

However, on Thursday, a very familiar name to the sports entertainment business came across the draft ticker as the Medicine Hat Tigers selected Duke Lesnar with the 115th overall pick. Duke’s father is none other than WWE superstar Brock Lesnar, and his mother was known by her ring name as Sable.

Lesnar spent the 2024-25 season with the Notre Dame Hounds, where he tallied 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 30 games while adding 43 penalty minutes. Lesnar added four points in four playoff games with the Hounds.

The Lesnar family is not new to hockey; both of Duke’s brothers play as well. The oldest, Alexander, currently plays for Saint John’s University in the ACHA II, while Turk played with Duke at Notre Dame this past season. Alexander did not play this past season, but during the 2023-24 campaign, he tallied 12 points in 19 games.

Brock, meanwhile, has been a staple in the combat sports industry for over 20 years, competing in the WWF/WWE, NJPW, UFC, Bellator and more. Prior to his pro wrestling career, Brock spent time at the University of Minnesota as a professional wrestler, where he compiled a resume becoming the 1998 NJCAA Heavyweight Champion, a two-time NCAA All-American, a two-time Big Ten Conference Champion and the 2000 NCAA Heavyweight Champion. In 2004, Brock notoriously left the WWE for a pro contract in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings, where he was ultimately cut in preseason.

Lesnar will be at the upcoming Medicine Hat Tigers development and rookie camp this summer where fans will get their first look of him.
