Gabriel Landeskog has been recalled to the big club.

Following a two-game conditioning loan with the AHL affiliated Colorado Eagles, in which he put up one goal and one assist, the longtime Colorado Avalanche captain was recalled Tuesday in the next step in his comeback bid.

Sidelined since the conclusion of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs – when he led Colorado to its third-ever championship – Landeskog has battled a lingering knee ailment for the past three seasons but appears to be nearing a return, potentially as soon as the Avalanche’s opening round playoff series against the Central Division rival Dallas Stars.

Originally chosen second overall by Colorado in the 2011 NHL Draft, the 32-year-old Swedish-born forward has skated in 11 seasons with the Avalanche in which he has collected 248 goals and 323 assists for 571 points, putting him sixth in all-time scoring since the franchise shifted to Denver in 1995. A two-time 30-plus goal scorer, Landeskog’s best offensive showing came in 2018-19 when he put up a career-high 75 points counting 34 goals and 41 assists through 73 games. In his last season, in 2021-22, Landeskog scored north of a point per game as he collected 30 goals and 29 assists in 51 contests.

Landeskog’s scoring success has also translated to the postseason where through 69 playoff outings he has tallied 67 points, including 11 goals and 11 assists in 20 games en route to the team’s 2022 Stanley Cup championship.

For the Avalanche, the club wrapped up the 2024-25 regular season with a 49-29-4 record to finish third place in the Central Division, meaning the first two games of its opening-round series will come in Dallas.

The 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs marks the eighth consecutive year in which the Avalanche will participate in the postseason. Prior to 2022, the Avalanche also hoisted the Stanley Cup in 1996 and 2001.
