The goalie market is nearly non-existent ahead of 2025 NHL Trade Deadline

All seems quiet on the goalie front ahead of the March 7 NHL trade deadline.
On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk were joined by Carter Hutton to chat about which teams could be looking for a goaltending upgrade ahead of the deadline and if any netminders are available.
Tyler Yaremchuk: Do you think we will see any sort of a big splash on the goalie market, whether it is Jordan Binnington or John Gibson or whoever?
Carter Hutton: I think it would have to be player in, player out. I don’t really think there is something that happens. Frank, you’re the expect in this area. The only team, maybe Edmonton, you see is trying to win a Cup, but at this point, I just don’t really see anybody that is in dire need [of a goalie]. Maybe a fill-in. The way I see it is that a lot of those teams in the second wildcard spot, I don’t see potential in them going the distance come playoff time.
Frank Seravalli: It’s a tough market to see an opening. For Edmonton, let’s say they had the cap space – which they don’t – who are you going to get that you feel is really moving the needle for you when you’re Jeff Jackson or you’re Stan Bowman and you put your head down on the pillow at night and you go, ‘Finally, we got that solved.’ As good as John Gibson can be, I don’t know that he does it for me. And the term on the deal, which you then need to figure out after the fact.
Carter Hutton: I think that would be the only one for me is Edmonton. If they feel like if something happened to Stuart Skinner, are they okay going with Calvin Pickard moving forward? If they feel safe knowing he can carry the mail – and I sure don’t – but in the same sense, who is the guy to fill that role? If it’s someone that is serviceable. Utah probably wants an arm and a leg for Karel Vejmelka. I think it’s a tough situation for the Oilers right now. And for the first time, I am on the trade deadline [show] with you guys and it might be a little boring from the goalie standpoint.
