Olofsson had scored in the Golden Knight’s 4-2 loss, his third of the season. In the game’s aftermath, Cassidy told reporters Olofsson’s injury “didn’t look good.”
The 29-year-old has missed Vegas’ last two games. It has led to some shuffling within the lines, but nothing has worked as the Golden Knights were swept in the Florida road trip, falling to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Florida Panthers by a pair of 4-3 scores last week.
Olofsson got off to a really good start this season, scoring twice in Vegas’ 8-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche in their season opener. Unfortunately, those would be the only points the Omskoldsvik native would score until his last appearance six days ago.
He came to Vegas on a one-year, $1.075 million contract after spending the first full seasons of his NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres. Olofsson was brought in to help a Vegas team on the wing and the power play after losing the likes of Jonathan Marchessault and Chandler Stephenson this past offseason.
Olofsson was originally taken in the seventh round, 181st overall, by the Sabres in the 2014 NHL Draft. He would debut with the team during the 2018-19 season but made a splash during his rookie campaign the following year, scoring 20 goals and 42 points during the COVID-shortened season. He had back-to-back 20-goal seasons before struggles led to him being a healthy scratch for many games last season. In 2023-24, Olofsson scored just 15 points in 51 games, the lowest point production of his career.
In 318 NHL appearances, the Frolunda product has registered 93 goals and 92 assists for 185 points.
